San Francisco Fat Transfer Procedure

The fat transfer procedure is known as autologous fat transplantation, and involves extracting fat cells from the patient’s abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and then injecting them beneath the skin of the face.
Prior to the procedure, your plastic surgeon will evaluate your skin, the muscles and bone structure of your face, as well as discuss your expectations for the procedure, and your medical history.
You should avoid the sun until the redness has subsided, which typically occurs within forty eight hours. Makeup and sun block can be applied during this period to help hide your condition. The swelling and puffiness in the recipient sites can last several weeks, depending on how large an area was filled.
You may be advised to limit activity for a period of time, however many patients are able to resume normal activity almost immediately. Some swelling and bruising is to be expected in both the donor and recipient sites.
