Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, which takes place under general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes between one and two hours, depending on the technique.
During breast augmentation surgery, a silicone or saline implant is placed under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. Their are four different incision types, including mammary, perio-areola, umbilical and auxiliary, each with different advantages and disadvantaging relating to scaring and implant placement.
Following breast augmentation surgery, the Patient will wear a post-surgical compression bra, and some swelling and bruising will be expected as the implant begins to settle into place.
Patients should avoid stretching or lifting for two weeks, and may return to work so long as it does not involve physical labor and lifting. The closer you follow the recovery instructions by your surgeon, the quicker you will recover.
