Historically, fat transferred with small needles from one area of the body to another was the only option for providing or replacing facial volume and contour associated with youth and beauty. While autologus fat transfer (FAMI) with small cannulas is a great option for some patients, there is swelling and recovery time with this technique that can be minimized using one of the available soft tissue fillers. Areas commonly treated by facial fillers include cheek bones, the hollows under the cheek bones (sunken cheeks), as well as the jaw line (chin enhancement) and temple areas that can become hollowed out with aging, particularly in thinner patients. Volume replacement with a dermal filler is a wonderful option to optimize facial contours, enhance our beauty and restore a youthful visage.

Neck bands, known medically as patysmal bands, are the result of bunching and/or thickening of the wide, thin muscle that envelops our neck responsible for grimacing. These bands create a “clothesline”-like effect on the neck, giving the appearance of a sagging neck or turkey neck. In younger or middle-aged patients, these bands can be treated with small injections of Dysport or BOTOX® Cosmetic, which relax the muscle and improve the neck contour. The treatment for neck wrinkles and bands is virtually painless and results last from 3-6 months.

As we age, the lips lose their natural youthful fullness and become rectangular, rather than diamond-shaped. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like Restalyne injections can be used to correct some of these aging changes as well as provide fuller, more voluptuous lips in younger patients. Lip augmentation or enhancement is an office procedure with minimal discomfort using a small amount of local anesthetic under the lip, not unlike a dental block. Most patients experience small amounts of swelling immediately after the procedure which resolve in a few days.
Many patients find the fine radial lines (also known as “smoker’s lines”) that develop above and below the lips distressing. A combination of therapy employing Dysport or BOTOX® Cosmetic and a fine-line filler like Cosmoderm or Prevelle Silk are minimally invasive approaches to address this concern.
One doesn’t have to have “overpuffed” lips to achieve a natural enhancement that is quite attractive and appealing. Lip border enhanced performed with a HA filler provides the youthful “lip roll” associated with youth and beauty. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Maas to learn more.
