While some patients have a single aesthetic goal they wish to achieve, others might want to combine different goals into a single procedure to produce the most dramatic results. Whether you are in search of a way to smooth away wrinkles, firm loose skin or trim away areas of unwanted fat, ThermiRF offers the technology necessary to give you the outcome you want. This single device provides a host of noninvasive and minimally-invasive treatment options, all with little or no discomfort and downtime. Dr. Maas and The Maas Clinic offers Thermi RF to his patients, to ensure they have all the choices necessary to achieve their diverse goals.

What is ThermiRF?

ThermiRF is a platform that can be used to address a variety of cosmetic concerns. The RF stands for radiofrequency energy, a technology that has been safely used in the medical realm for decades. When RF is used for cosmetic purposes, it offers both skin rejuvenation and fat sculpting benefits. The controlled heat generated by the Thermi device constricts tissue, melts away fat cells and stimulates collagen production for results that are more youthful and vibrant. By combining the controlled heating process with real-time temperature monitoring, we can offer our patients a procedure that is safe, comfortable and effective.

ThermiRF Benefits

ThermiRF offers a myriad of benefits over surgical skin tightening and body contouring for the right patients:

  • Office procedure can usually be completed in one hour
  • Discomfort during and after treatment is minimal
  • Return to activities or work immediately following your appointment
  • Results improve gradually over time for a natural appearance
  • Few risks and side effects associated with the treatment

ThermiRF can be performed in two different ways. During one type of procedure, a small probe is inserted into the dermal structure to create tissue constriction and melt away unwanted fat cells. This method often leads to desired results after a single treatment session. Other procedures are entirely noninvasive, using a handheld applicator to deliver the RF energy to the underlying dermis without penetrating the skin’s surface. This process typically requires multiple appointments to achieve the outcome you want.

ThermiRF Options

The ThermiRF platform offers a variety of treatment options that allow us to tailor your procedure to your precise needs. Choices include:

The ThermiTight process involves the insertion of a probe into the deeper layers of the treatment area to produce the most dramatic results possible without surgery. The probe delivers RF heating in controlled amounts directly to the area that requires constriction or fat reduction. When the wand targets fat cells, it liquefies them so that the body can eliminate them through natural processes. Treatment areas might include:

  • The underside of upper arms
  • Upper back (bra rolls)
  • Lower back and sides (love handles)
  • Breasts (in men)
  • Abdomen and waistline
  • Outer and inner thighs
  • Behind the knees

The combination of fat reduction and skin tightening offers positive results in any of these areas. When we direct the heat at the skin tissue only, it causes constriction and stimulates the body to produce collagen for a firming effect that can be seen shortly after treatment and into the future. It can even be used to reverse early jowl formation and the appearance of a double chin, common aging symptoms that can affect your self-confidence.

This noninvasive application of the ThermiRF device can be used on both the face and body, thanks to different sizes in handpieces. When Dr. Maas uses ThermiSmooth on the face, a small round handpiece is placed over the skin’s surface, which delivers the RF energy into the dermal structure. The procedure can be used to address skin laxity and other signs of aging in the following areas:

  • Lines and wrinkles on the forehead
  • Subtle lines and puffiness around the eyes
  • Skin laxity in the midface and hollowing under the cheekbones
  • Perioral lines above the upper lip
  • Early jowl formation and loose skin on the neck

A larger handpiece is used to treat areas of the body where loose skin affects your body contour and your appearance overall. Treatment areas for ThermiSmooth Body include:

  • Chest and breasts (in men)
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Upper and lower back
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Knees, calves and ankles

In addition to firming the areas, ThermiSmooth offers subtle lift to create a more youthful body profile.

Until the introduction of ThermiRF, the only practical way to treat glabellar lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows) was through Botox injections. While Botox continues to be a popular choice, patients now have an option that does not involve needles or toxins. ThermiRase targets those lines, delivering radiofrequency energy to the area to smooth them away and reduce their appearance. Like Botox, the RF energy relaxes muscle activity that leads to the formation of those wrinkles. A probe is used for this process so that the RF heat can be directed precisely to the muscles to have a positive effect without damaging surrounding skin, tissue or nerves.

Procedure Overview

Dr. Maas performs all of the ThermiRF procedures right in his office at The Maas Clinic, taking an hour or less to complete most of them. ThermiTight and ThermiRase procedures require a local anesthetic, to maintain your comfort as the probe is inserted into the treatment area. Incisions used for this process are too small to require suturing afterward and will not leave noticeable scarring behind. You should not feel any pain during the procedure, and there are no restrictions on activity after the treatment.

ThermiSmooth does not require any anesthesia since the handpiece does not penetrate the skin. You may feel some gentle heating as the applicator passes across the surface, but it should not be uncomfortable. Many of our patients even find the process to be relaxing. Like other ThermiRF treatments, you will be able to resume activities immediately following your appointment.

What Happens after Thermi RF

Patients that undergo ThermiTight and ThermiRase may experience some slight swelling where the probe was placed, but there should not be any significant discomfort. You will see the effects of your procedure in the weeks following the process as collagen is generated and treated fat cells are flushed out of the body. It is likely you will achieve the outcome you want after a single treatment session.

If you have a ThermiSmooth treatment, there should not be any side effects after your procedure. Like other ThermiRF procedures, your results will develop in the weeks following your session. ThermiSmooth patients usually require a series of appointments to realize their full effects.
