Juvederm Injectable Gel for Natural, Lasting Results

Juvederm Injectable gel is a dermal filler comprised of synthetic hyaluronic acid, allowing for a natural look and gradual biodegradability of the substance by the body. Like its counterpart Restylane, this line of fillers does not carry a risk of an allergic reaction and offers improvements that last for many months. Results appear immediately, provide you with natural enhancement, and require little or no downtime. The Juvederm line has expanded in recent years with various formulations to address a broad range of needs. Whether you want to address aging symptoms, add youthful volume to the face, or correct minor imperfections, a Juvederm product is likely right for you.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Despite what the label suggests, hyaluronic acid is not an acid at all. It is a sugar that is naturally produced by the body to assist in the hydration of the dermal structure among other functions. When a synthetic version is placed into the Juvederm products, it creates an injectable gel that can work within the skin’s scaffolding to provide support and restore a more youthful appearance from the inside out.

The various Juvederm formulations offer different weights and sizes of hyaluronic acid particles so they can address different concerns smoothly and naturally. Dr. Maas and his team can help you determine the Juvederm filler that will meet your needs and provide you with optimal results.

The Juvederm Line

Numerous products exist within the Juvederm family today, each with its unique properties and benefits:

Juvederm XC

The original Juvederm injectable gel is less dense and more appropriate for medium-depth wrinkle correction. This formulation works on the following concerns:

  • Nasolabial folds or smile lines (creases running from the nose to the mouth)
  • Parentheses lines that appear in the corners of the mouth
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles
  • Lines situated between the eyebrows (glabellar or frown lines)
  • Marionette wrinkles extending down the lower portion of the face
  • Dark circles, wrinkles, and hollowing underneath the eyes

Juvederm is also a viable option for lip augmentation in some patients. The XC in the name means the formulation contains lidocaine, a medication that makes the injection process more comfortable.

Voluma

As people age, the cheek area loses volume, making the cheeks flatten out and the skin droop and sag. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC was recently approved by the FDA and is the first and only filler approved to temporarily correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area in adults aged 21 and over. It instantly provides smooth, natural-looking results that last up to two years with optimal correction.

With the FDA approval of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC, physicians and patients in the U.S. now have a new treatment option that can help create a natural-looking, more youthful appearance in the cheek area.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss why and how the face loses volume as people age. I can also speak about how JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is an effective non-surgical treatment option for age-related volume loss in the cheek area.

Approved Use

VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over the age of 21.

Reverse Aging on the Lower Face with Vollure

Time can take a severe toll on the lower face as collagen levels deplete, the skin becomes loose, and wrinkles and creases form. These changes can all be addressed with Vollure, a newcomer to the Juvederm line the FDA approved in 2017 as Vollure for use in the U.S. It has been used in European countries since 2013, under the brand name Volift. Vollure is designed to rejuvenate areas of the lower face, treating the following concerns:

  • Nasolabial folds from the edges of the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Smile lines, which are vertical lines on the edges of the mouth
  • Marionette lines extending from the sides of the mouth to the jawline
  • Mild skin laxity and loss of definition along the jawline
  • Loss of volume in the midface

The smooth consistency of Vollure provides a subtle improvement in these areas, with a noticeable reduction in lines and creases. Results of Vollure often last up to 15 months or more.

Rejuvenate Your Lips with Volbella

While many women seek lip rejuvenation to combat the aging process, others are merely dissatisfied with the lips they were born with and wish to add the volume Mother Nature didn’t give them.

Volbella received FDA approval in 2016 to address both of these patients.

The formulation performs double duty, plumping up lips while smoothing away fine vertical lines above the upper lip, known as perioral lines. In the past, these lines had been challenging to treat with injectable solutions alone and achieve subtle, natural results. Most patients see their natural improvements continue for up to one year.

How the Procedure Works

When you come into The Maas ClinicTM for your Juvederm treatment, we will collect information about your health history and the medications you currently take to ensure the procedure will be safe for you. We recommend you avoid blood-thinning medications, including aspirin, other anti-inflammatories, and some supplements to prevent excessive bruising with the injections. In most cases, our patients can have their treatment on the same day as their consultation. As a matter of course, we take photos of our patients before their injections so that we have a baseline before creating the requested enhancements. We also apply a topical numbing cream before your injections, which extends your appointment by about 15 to 30 minutes. You can opt to forgo the numbing medication if you choose. Juvederm injections only take a few minutes to complete, with Dr. Maas placing the filler in strategic points to ensure an even and natural outcome. You will be able to leave our office as soon as your procedure is finished.

What You Need to Know about Your Recovery and Results

You should expect to have some mild swelling after your procedure, in addition to small amounts of bruising around the injection points. We will advise you to apply ice to the area to manage puffiness, and we can offer some natural remedies to alleviate bruising if necessary. In most cases, the bruising is mild enough to cover with makeup, and the swelling should not be uncomfortable enough to keep you from resuming your daily routine right away.

Results are seen as soon as the injections are placed but swelling may prevent you from seeing your complete look for a few days. Once your outcome is apparent, you should enjoy your refreshed appearance for many months. The specific duration will depend on the particular formulation used, the treatment area, and how quickly your body breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the mix. To maintain your results longer, you can schedule regular treatment sessions at our office.

Juvederm injections have a proven track record of safety and offer a quick, relatively easy way to reverse aging symptoms and enhance your appearance. If you would like to learn more about your treatment options, contact The Maas Clinic™ today.
