Labiaplasty refers to a procedure that involves enhancing, reducing and/or reshaping the size of the labia minora.
The need for this surgery can be caused by a number of different issues. Vaginal rejuvenation (vaginoplasty) involves tightening the vagina following the stretching or tearing associate with childbirth.
Englarged vaginal lips can result in pain during intercourse, or even with snugly fitting clothing. During this procedure, the inner (labia minora) and/or the outer (labia majora) lips of the vagina are essentially trimmed.
As with any surgery there are risks involved, including infection, bleeding, numbness, pigment changes, chronic pain (due to scarring), and an unsatisfactory cosmetic outcome. Also, asymmetry, and decreased sexual function may occur. Dr. Maas has an extensive network of plastic surgeons specializing in labiaplasty and vaginoplasty in Northern and Southern California.
