You may have noticed bothersome frown lines between your eyebrows that remain when you’re not frowning or furrowing your brow. Also known as glabellar lines, worry lines or 11s, these vertical wrinkles form due to the movement of muscles beneath and around the eyebrows. In our youth, these lines would disappear once our muscles relaxed. But as we age, our skin becomes more rigid and less elastic, resulting in frown lines permanently ingrained in our skin.
At the Maas Clinic™ in San Francisco, we offer DAXXIFY to non-surgically treat your frown lines and achieve smoother, more youthful skin.
DAXXIFY (daxibotulinumtoxinA-Ianm) is a new FDA-approved botulinum toxin product for smoothing dynamic wrinkles. It is considered an alternative to BOTOX with the benefit of longer-lasting results, and it has been proven as an effective and safe injectable neuromodulator treatment.
DAXXIFY temporarily improves moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines). It is indicated for addressing wrinkles between the eyebrows caused by procerus muscle and/or corrugator muscle activity. The procerus muscle depresses the inner ends of the eyebrows, and the corrugator muscle is a small pyramid-shaped muscle above the eyes. Both muscles create frown lines when contracted.
Phase 2 clinical studies also show that DAXXIFY may effectively treat other wrinkles in the upper face and neck spasms (cervical dystonia), but it is not yet FDA approved for these purposes.
You may be a candidate for this long-acting botulinum toxin product if you are bothered by etched-in frown lines between your eyebrows. DAXXIFY is ideal for adult patients of any gender who would like to restore a more youthful appearance by smoothing their worry lines.
DAXXIFY works as an acetylcholine release inhibitor and neuromuscular blocking agent, meaning it relaxes muscles by blocking nerves from signaling the muscles to contract. When injected into the muscles that cause frown lines, DAXXIFY reduces muscle movement and allows the wrinkles to smooth out.
You should not get DAXXIFY injections if you are hypersensitive or allergic to botulinum toxin or any other ingredients in DAXXIFY. Children and women who are pregnant are also not candidates. Patients with an active infection or sores in the treatment area should wait until they’ve healed before getting DAXXIFY.
DAXXIFY treatments are performed similarly to BOTOX, with the formula injected into the target muscles using a very fine needle. Before your injections, we may apply a topical numbing cream to increase your comfort. The injection process only takes a few minutes, and you can resume your day as usual after treatment.
Visible results generally develop one to two days after DAXXIFY treatment.
Clinical trials demonstrate that DAXXIFY results typically last for six months. In some patients, DAXXIFY results lasted up to nine months.
The cost of DAXXIFY will depend on the amount of product needed to treat your wrinkles, which will be based on the depth and length of your frown lines. Pricing can also be affected by physician experience, which is a vital factor to consider when choosing where to get your treatment from.
After a thorough consultation at the Maas Clinic™ for us to understand your goals, we will be able to tell you the exact cost of your DAXXIFY treatment.
The main ingredient in DAXXIFY is botulinum toxin, a chemical derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. This active ingredient is what blocks the nerve signals to reduce muscle movement.
DAXXIFY is the first and only peptide-formulated neuromodulator of its kind powered by Revance’s proprietary cell-penetrating Peptide Exchange Technology. This means it is formulated with a unique stabilizing protein (RTP004) to aid in delivering the botulinum toxin to the nerves. This synthetic substance does not contain human serum albumin or animal-based components that could cause an allergic reaction.
In DAXXIFY clinical trials, there were no serious side effects related to treatment. Rare but potential and temporary side effects of DAXXIFY may include headache, eyelid drooping and facial asymmetry.
DAXXIFY has a safety profile consistent with other available cosmetic neuromodulators.
These neuromodulators are all made from botulinum toxin. However, their formulas and densities vary, making the treatment areas and longevity of each unique.
BOTOX offers a more versatile treatment and can address multiple wrinkles in the upper face, including frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. DAXXIFY is specifically designed to address frown lines.
DAXXIFY is longer lasting than most treatments of BOTOX, Dysport and XEOMIN, which typically last three to four months. DAXXIFY clinical trials show that its results last approximately six months. In some cases, DAXXIFY has been shown to last up to nine months. Because of this, new patients may wish to undergo a shorter-acting neuromodulator treatment first to ensure they like the results and then undergo DAXXIFY for longer-lasting wrinkle reduction.
Yes, DAXXIFY can be combined with other neuromodulator treatments and/or other cosmetic treatments to achieve overall facial rejuvenation. Based on your specific concerns, Dr. Maas can recommend the ideal injectable combinations to treat your wrinkles. He may recommend adding photorejuvenation treatments for sun-damaged skin or facial resurfacing treatments for other skin aging concerns.
DAXXIFY is produced by Revance, an established biotechnology company headquartered in Tennessee focused on developing innovative aesthetic and therapeutic treatments. Revance also developed and manufactures the RHA Collection of dermal fillers.
