Radiant Renewal

There are many methods of exfoliation to choose from, but the tried-and-true chemical peel in San Francisco continues to be a top choice for many men and women due to its long track record of safety and its consistent results. At The Maas ClinicTM, we offer a wide variety of facial and body peels to meet our patients' precise needs and achieve results ranging from subtle radiance to dramatic correction.

Light Facial Peels

Light peels are designed to achieve subtle rejuvenation without discomfort or downtime. These treatments generally feature gentle ingredients like glycolic or salicylic acid, which efficiently remove the outermost skin cells without causing significant irritation to the skin. You can schedule one of these procedures over your lunch hour and return to work with little or no indication you just had a cosmetic treatment. With regular sessions, your skin maintains a fresh, youthful look and feel. The following light peels are available at The Maas Clinic™:

Rejuvenation Peel

Designed for normal, dry, and dehydrated skin, this peel is both aggressive and stimulating. The formulation containing both glycolic acid and retinol exfoliates dead surface skin cells, resulting in a firmer, healthier complexion. The procedure also minimizes the appearance of fine lines to produce a more youthful look. As the formulation triggers the production of collagen and elastin within the dermal structure, results can be both long-lasting and natural. Most patients experience the exfoliation effective over several days. The Rejuvenation Peel can be used on a variety of areas, including the face, neck, chest, and hands.

Rapid Response Peel

This novel and multifunctional treatment is performed in four layers to change the image of your skin in just one session. Vitamin C, glycolic acid, and enzymes work synergistically to accelerate cell turnover and brighten and tighten your skin. The Rapid Response Peel is appropriate for all skin types and is particularly useful just before a special event since side effects are minimal and results are apparent right away.

Beta Peel

This salicylic acid resurfacing solution is an ideal choice for improving acne, breakout-prone skin, and sluggish, lackluster complexions. The safe and outstanding resurfacing modality has a dual benefit in reducing and treating acne while resurfacing and smoothing the skin’s surface. Just one treatment offers a substantial improvement in the overall look and feel of the skin. The Beta Peel is often a recommended progressive treatment for stubborn grades three and four acne.

Ultimate Restoration Peel

This more aggressive skin treatment combines microdermabrasion with either the rejuvenating, clarifying, or beta peel to produce stellar results. By stripping away the outer barrier of dead skin cells, the secondary peel acts directly at the site of active skin physiology to promote a dramatic response. The Ultimate Restoration Peel offers unparalleled results when addressing specific skin conditions like acne and rosacea.

Medium Peels

More powerful chemicals are used in these peels to remove additional skin layers and produce more dramatic results. While there is some recovery time after these treatments, it is relatively minimal compared to the improvements they offer. A single session typically produces the desired outcome, so there is no need to schedule a series of appointments. Trichloroacetic (TCA) acid is the most common ingredient found in medium peels at The Maas ClinicTM, and it has a history of safety and success when used for this process.

TCA Peel

The TCA Peel is a more intense treatment that requires a few days of downtime afterward to allow your skin to heal. This treatment is powerful enough to address signs of aging and sun damage, including fine lines, brown spots, and some types of melasma. Acne conditions may also improve after a TCA Peel for some patients. While this procedure is more aggressive than light facial peels, it is a minimally invasive alternative to laser resurfacing.

A single application reveals a new you with long-lasting enhancements. Most patients do not require any anesthetic before a medium peel. You might feel some stinging or tingling while the peel is working, but it should be tolerable. There is little discomfort after the treatment. Most patients remain home for the first day or two to give their skin time to heal, but you should feel ready to put on makeup and get back to your activities relatively quickly.

Deep Peels

Deep peels are an intensive treatment that only can be performed once in a patient’s lifetime. There is discomfort and extended recovery after this procedure, but the results are dramatic and last 10 years or longer in most cases. These potent formulations remove a host of skin imperfections, including deeper facial creases, brown spots, and other pigmentation irregularities.

The procedure also reverses visible signs of sun damage and eliminates shallow acne scarring.

Options in Deep Peels

Dr. Maas offers three different types of deep peels. All of them have phenol as their active ingredient, which is the most potent chemical used in cosmetic treatments today. Formulations containing phenol penetrate the lower dermal layers to erase many more visible imperfections than other peels. Straight phenol peels offer an 88% concentration of the acid, while Baker’s and Litton’s peels feature other ingredients in the mix along with the phenol to beautify the skin.

Dr. Maas performs deep peels on an outpatient basis, often under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

The process takes one to two hours to complete, and you will return home a short time later. The treated area will likely have bandages, and you will receive specific instructions on how to care for your skin during the recovery process. A crust forms on the surface of the skin a few days after treatment, which leads to flaking away of the crust to reveal soft, pink skin underneath.

The skin will remain pink for up to a month or two, and it is imperative to stay out of the sun during this time to avoid damage to the exposed dermis.
