Scarlet SRF is an advanced radiofrequency microneedling device. SRF refers to “short-pulse radiofrequency,” the technology that makes this one of the safest and most effective systems for nonsurgical skin tightening and rejuvenation.
Traditional microneedling creates punctures in the skin with tiny needles. These small, controlled “injuries” trigger the skin’s natural healing process and stimulate collagen production. The skin regenerating itself leads to increased tightness and firmness and various improvements in superficial appearance.
The addition of radiofrequency intensifies the microneedling process. By adding RF energy, the treatment triggers even more collagen growth and causes the subdermal tissues to contract and tighten. The microneedles allow the RF energy to reach precise depths within the skin, where it has the most potent effect on collagen production. The depth range can be customized to produce the best results for each individual patient.
The powerful treatment combo of microneedling and radiofrequency can achieve impactful results for patients who are not interested in or are not candidates for surgical lifting procedures.
Why is Scarlet SRF the next-gen radiofrequency microneedling device? The answer is the “Na Effect,” a patented method of RF energy distribution discovered by Dr. Jongju Na.
Scarlet SRF’s microneedles are designed so that RF energy travels through the path of least resistance. The energy exits first at the needle tip, then moves up to create a teardrop shape. This focused energy treats the tissue within a precise area surrounding each microneedle electrode. This is an improvement on other RF systems, which apply energy in a more widespread area, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.
The Na Effect allows Scarlet SRF to utilize RF energy to its full potential. The treatment is more consistent, more comfortable and faster than other RF microneedling devices. It has also minimized traditional complications while improving the results of the treatment. The proven science behind the Na Effect allows us to deliver state-of-the-art care for people of all skin types with this device.
Unlike many laser and light-based treatments, Scarlet SRF is appropriate for all skin tones. Patients with good skin elasticity and mild to moderate skin laxity typically achieve the most satisfying results. For any cosmetic procedure, it is ideal to be a nonsmoker, have realistic expectations and be in good overall health.

The Scarlet SRF treatment requires minimal preparation. Please avoid the following before your appointment:
If possible, please ensure the treatment area is clean of makeup and lotions when you arrive at The Maas Clinic.
We will begin your Scarlet SRF procedure with the application of a topical numbing cream to ensure you are comfortable throughout the appointment. After approximately 30 minutes, we will cleanse the treatment area and prepare it for the RF microneedling. We will then administer the treatment by systematically moving the Scarlet SRF handpiece across your skin.
You will be monitored throughout your session to confirm that the procedure is neither too aggressive nor too mild for your skin concerns. Most patients report that the experience is comfortable and quick.
Some redness and swelling can be expected for a few hours after your RF microneedling treatment. You may notice your skin feels warm, like you have a mild sunburn. There is little to no bleeding or sensitivity as can sometimes occur with other microneedling treatments. Many patients feel comfortable returning to their regular daily activities immediately.
As little as one Scarlet SRF treatment is enough to produce noticeable results in your skin. For maximum benefits that last throughout the year, we recommend a series of three to four treatments.
You may observe a tightening effect immediately after your first Scarlet SRF treatment. This is merely the initial result of the treatment. Over time, your results will continue to improve as your body builds new collagen and elastin fibers in your skin. This process can continue for several months.
RF microneedling is a long-lasting, but not permanent, treatment. Results can last six months to a year following a Scarlet SRF treatment. The longevity of your results depends on a variety of factors unique to you, including your natural aging process, your lifestyle and your skin condition.
For over 20 years, The Maas Clinic has been a leader in plastic surgery and aesthetics in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are committed to continuing that legacy by utilizing the latest technology, prioritizing patient safety and exceeding expectations for personalized care.

Scarlet SRF offers maximum results with maximum comfort. The microneedles are extremely thin, and the device delivers energy to the skin for less than 300 milliseconds at a time. It is the shortest heating period of all RF devices currently available. Topical anesthetic is provided for comfort and peace of mind. Most patients only feel gentle pressure and a heating sensation during the procedure.
Scarlet SRF treatments last approximately 20 minutes for the face and 10 minutes for the neck. The time required for a body treatment depends on the size and condition of the targeted area. Unlike many similar devices, Scarlet SRF needs just one pass to treat an area. It is both time-efficient and highly effective. Additional time is required for the topical anesthetic to take effect.
Aging and environmental damage will continue to affect your skin after your Scarlet SRF treatment. Although the results are long-lasting, maintenance treatments are required to sustain your results indefinitely. Wearing sunscreen daily, eating a healthy diet and maintaining a consistent skincare routine will help preserve the benefits of the treatment for as long as possible.
Scarlet SRF can significantly improve the look of your skin, including providing a tightening and lifting effect. For patients with a milder degree of skin laxity, this can deliver a facelift-like result or delay the need for a facelift. For patients in the more advanced stages of the aging process, there is no substitute for surgically rejuvenating the skin and underlying tissues. Dr. Maas believes in transparency and clearly communicating the benefits and limitations of each treatment.
The advanced technology powering Scarlet SRF can safely and effectively treat all skin types and a variety of skin conditions. Unlike many other skin rejuvenation treatments, Scarlet SRF treats the full range of Fitzpatrick skin types — I, II, III, IV, V, and VI — without any risk of unwanted pigmentation changes.
Scarlet SRF is not recommended if you have an implantable metal electrical device, such as a defibrillator or pacemaker. You should also avoid this treatment if you have a history of skin cancer or keloid scarring in the areas to be treated, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Compared to microneedling or radiofrequency treatments alone, RF microneedling produces more dramatic results. The Secret SRF device represents the latest and most advanced RF microneedling technology available. It has minimized traditional complications while increasing the speed, comfort, consistency and efficacy of the treatment. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy can be combined with RF microneedling to further your results.
